Senior Research Engineer
About the role
Voice AI research engineer on AssemblyAI's JAX/TPU training stack — experiment velocity, data quality, eval harnesses, and production speech models. Remote; US salary band quoted, other regions communicated in process.
What you'll do
- Raise experimental velocity on the research team.
- Maintain and evolve the JAX training framework for distributed TPU runs.
- Investigate training-data quality issues and turn findings into accuracy gains.
- Analyze production-model accuracy and build evaluation harnesses.
- Translate research prototypes into production-ready systems.
Requirements
- Strong Python; C++ or Rust for kernel-level work is a plus.
- Familiarity with continuous batching, KV-cache, sharding, quantization.
- Enthusiasm for refactoring and speeding up existing systems.
- Domain knowledge in speech-to-text: ASR architectures, audio processing, streaming inference.
- Excellent communication and a collaborative mindset.
